Buddhism was founded by an Indian prince, who called himself the Buddha. The Buddha taught his people about what he called The Four Noble Truths, and an Eightfold Path. After the death of the Buddha, his followers traveled around Asia spreading his message to distant lands. Buddhism reached China just as the Han Dynasty was coming to an end. During these difficult times, people were in search of faith. Buddhism, along with its teachings of Nirvana offered them hope for a better life. By A.D. 400 Buddhism was widely practiced in China.
