Mobile vendors face blanket ban on Ayodhya alerts
Mobile operators across the country on Thursday placed a blanket ban on any alerts regarding the Ayodhya title suit verdict that was to be delivered by the Allahabad High Court on September 24.
Earlier today, the Supreme Court has deferred the verdict by the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad HC.
The decision comes a day after the Centre banned bulk SMS and MMS across the country till September 29, as a precautionary measure ahead of September 24's HC verdict.
The communications and information technology ministry issued orders to all mobile telecom services providers in consultation with the home ministry. The order banned bulk SMS and MMS in all service areas with immediate effect. The move, however, came as a welcome relief to mobile phone subscribers who are at the receiving end of bulk SMSes.
Television channels had also been advised caution while reporting the verdict earlier this month by the News Broadcasters Association, a voluntary body of TV news channels.
