Paper-II : SECTION A

(d) Missence and Nonsense mutations
(e) Mitochondria and Chloroplasts

2. Explain in details with suitable diagrams, the process of meiotic cell division with reference to a cell within 2N=4. Give biological significance of meiosis. (40)

3. What is an operon? Explain the structure and regulation of the lactose operon. (40)

6. What are enzymes ? Explain their characteristics. Give the basis of their classification with appropriate example of eachclass. (40)

7. Explain the terms ‘resting’ and ‘action’ potentials. Describe how a nerve impulse travels along a neuron mentioning roles of different ion channels and gates. (40)

8. With suitable examples discuss the role of cytoplasm and nucleus in the process of early embryonic development. (40)
